What to Expect:
Normal after treatment:
Redness
Mild swelling/warmth
Skin feeling similar to a mild sunburn
Brown spots temporarily darkening (“coffee ground” appearance)
These effects typically improve within a few hours to several days.
IMPORTANT: Sun Avoidance
For best results and to reduce risk of complications:
Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks
Wear SPF 30+ daily
Reapply sunscreen regularly
Avoid tanning beds and self-tanner
Sun exposure after treatment increases risk of:
Hyperpigmentation
Burns
Uneven results
For the first 24-48 hours:
Avoid:
Excessive heat
Hot tubs/saunas
Heavy exercise causing excessive sweating
Hot showers
Picking or scrubbing treated skin
Use:
Gentle cleanser
Gentle moisturizer
SPF
Cool compresses as needed
Skincare
Avoid for approximately 5–7 days unless otherwise instructed:
Retinol/Retinoids
Exfoliants
Acids (glycolic, salicylic, etc.)
Harsh scrubs
Active skincare products
Do NOT pick or scratch darkened pigment.
Make-Up:
Makeup may typically be worn the next day if skin is intact and comfortable
Avoid applying makeup to irritated or broken skin
When to call the office:
Please contact us if you experience:
Significant swelling
Blistering
Signs of infection
Severe pain
Prolonged redness
Any unexpected reaction or concern
Results:
Pigmented areas may darken before flaking off
Improvement develops gradually over several weeks
Multiple treatments are often needed for optimal results
